Bio

Ethan Sandes is a graduate student from the Media Production and Digital Arts course in TUD. Ethan specialise’s in editing and digital processing whether that is through visual elements such as video or photography alongside audio editing. Ethan has particular interest with cultivating media with a particular vintage quality whether that is through saturation or via transforming the photography into black and white.

Ethan is an incredibly hard-working individual who is deeply passionate about media since he was a child. Ethan is someone who takes a deep fascination into the surreal and how it affects not only our reality but our perception of media. This is reflective within his photography, videography, and video editing which has a clear vibrancy that demonstrates his focus and fascinations as an artist.

Ethan has represented his college for national awards due to the promotional videos for societies in TUD that he curated, Ethan has extensive connections and involvement with the societies across the Tallaght Campus. A reason as to why Ethan finds transporting digital and contemporary media into aesthetics associated with older media through the use of colour in particular is that he spent a substantial period of his adolescence viewing older media such as the various black and white Japanese films of Akira Kurosawa or early colour films such as The Time Machine and Rear Window.

Ethan finds the transition period from black and white film to colour film deeply fascinating in the vastly different interpretations and usage of colour in media. Ethan thinks the drifting and perpetual presence of the past in the contemporary incredibly crucial towards creating media and believes that is reflective in the photography such as The Tadhg Collection, Jiu Jitsu Photography, and his short films Picture Lock and Poetic Preaching capture the presence of the past in the present. Through visual elements such as lighting and colours are truly the strongest ways of conveying narrative and emotion, and he earnestly trusts that is present in the work that is on this website.
